An Introduction

Having taken this somewhat drastic measure of starting a blog, I am now faced with the perhaps daunting task of beginning to write it. Don't get me wrong, I am certainly looking forward to having my blog up and running (for why would I have created it if not to take pleasure from doing so?), but before that point, I must admit, there is a certain amount of trepidation. The start of something, for me, has always been the most difficult thing, far more than the action itself. You see, the beginning takes will power. A person must take a decisive thought and act upon it, and this is a trait which I somewhat lack. When friends complain of the fact that they must devote precious hours of holiday time towards ghastly revision for our upcoming AS Levels, for me it is not that I might have to give up a few hours in town here and there, not even that revision is the reason for staying at home. In all honesty, I quite like revision. Well, perhaps that is an overstatement, but I do not mind sitting down at a desk for a few hours a day in order to learn something that I find interesting, and, actually, once I get started and am well into the process, I can come to enjoy it. However, it is that terrifying feeling of starting the revision that I detest. Waking up in the morning and knowing that I've got to motivate myself to put down my copy of Harry Potter and take out my folders. A similar example could be applied to sky diving. One must overcome the fear of jumping in order to experience the intense pleasure.
However, I digress. What I wished to mention in this introduction was my reason for writing a blog and something about who I am. I have always, always been a keen reader. I love everything about books: the smell, the sight, and, most importantly, what's inside them, and I'll read almost anything. It's true that there's nothing better than a decent book, a warm mug of tea and a comfy chair (preferably on a cold winter's day beside the fire, but I'm not fussy), and, in my opinion, books are there to enjoy. However, I also believe that literature is not only around for entertainment, but also for education. Whatever you read, be it D.H Lawrence or Katie Price, you learn something from it. I would, in this blog, like to share what I've learned from literature and my love of books.
Moreover, I do not boast an impressive style of writing (or any style at all, for that matter), nor do I wish by my above words to sound noble or grand. But, I've always wanted to share my love of reading, and what better way to do so than by writing about it?
